The Kansas Aviation Museum is located across the runways from McConnell Air Force Base, and south of the Cessna Aircraft facility in Wichita. It opened on April 19, 1991 to showcase Kansas aviation history.

The facility features a series of indoor aircraft, exhibits and displays, and an outdoor airpark of restored, historic aircraft and related equipment.

It is housed in the historic art deco Wichita Municipal Airport terminal originally dedicated in 1935.

Aircraft on Display

It houses a world-class collection of historic, significant and one-of-a-kind aircraft and aircraft engines. Its collection also includes archives featuring thousands of records, schematics, books, photos, and aviation memorabilia. It also is home to the Kansas Aviation Hall of Fame.

Visiting the Kansas Aviation Museum

Our most recent visit was in September 2014, and highly recommended it to everyone with an interest in commercial and military aviation, and Kansas aviation history.

It is located at 3350 South George Washington Boulevard, Wichita, KS 67210 (see map below on this page).

An admission fee is charged; parking is free. Inside the museum, visitors can view a variety of aircraft, exhibits, dioramas, photographs, maps, and memorabilia.

Additional aircraft exhibits are located outdoors in an airpark on the paved tarmac. On hot days, be sure to bring bottled water, and use sunscreen.

Also located on the premises is a Gift Shop, featuring books, shirts, caps, airplane models, patches, photographs and many other items related to Wichita history and Kansas aviation.

For more information and opening hours, phone (316) 683-9242, or visit the website of the museum.
